this walk basically follows the chao praya river from the memorial bridge to wat arun. starting at the memorial bridge river taxi pier, cross the road and climb the steps. the memorial gardens are behind the wall opposite. next cross the bridge. enjoy the views. there's usually quite a lot of activity on the river. the entrance to wat prayurawong is at the end of the footpath on the right hand side of the bridge.
Princess Mother Memorial Park, it's possible to climb the stupa. entrance is via the museum. most people also enjoy visiting the adjoining turtle gardens. next head back to the river under the memorial bridge and take the cycle path in the direction of wat arun. it's a popular location for fishing despite the tendency for the river traffic to be quite heavy.
for those who don't know, this is a coconut and it's not unusual to see them in the river. along the path visit santa cruz church and the chinese temple which is usually open. wat kalayanamit is at the end of the path. the entrance faces the river. on leaving, head away from the river along the road to the left of the wat, go through the arch at the end and turn right along the main road. after about 50 meters take the slip road to the side of the bridge. just before the steps turn left under the bridge and then take the steps up to the other side with the thai boxing gym on the right. once across the canal take the steps down to the mosque. follow the footpath past the entrance. wat hongratanaram is at the end.
visit the wat, take a look at the canal, enjoy the atmosphere. it's unlikely there will be any other tourists here. to leave take either of the roads running along side the wat heading away form the canal. continue for about 200 meters to the main road. turn right, crossing the next main road at the traffic lights, then turn left at the navy establishment entrance. wat arun will be clearly visible. take the second entrance into the grounds of the wat. the main stupa is straight ahead. on reaching it, entry is optional. to go directly to the river and ferry across to tha tien pier walk past the entrance to the stupa, turn right towards the river and then left to the exit.
