at night you can hit up soi cowboy which is the red-light district lined with bars, ladies of the evening and ladyboys ofthe evening. this is a fully themed shopping center and they've really gone all out. there you'll find rome, tokyo, istanbul, london... on the top floor is an awesome food courtand make sure you check out the toilets on every floor - they might even be thebest part! downtown is a lot more touristy, a lot trashier, the food is notas good, and it's more expensive. it's backpacker central, day and night.

don't get me wrong - it's enjoyable - but it's just a bit fake. the chao phraya riverruns through the city and you can take a boat cruise on that past all sorts ofinteresting sights like floating markets, stilt houses, and you can even feed catfishby hand with pieces of bread. your guide might sing a song for you too! the grand palace is a huge complex filled with incredibly ornate structures; most ofthem gold and silver plated. the amount of detail in the buildings, statues and gardens and stuff is really awesome. so that's your two minute tour of bangkok.i'll see you at the next place!
